An ounce of prevention... well, you know the rest. Meeks Bay Fire is very proactive in fire prevention and community safety. Our goal of protecting life, property and the environment starts with our prevention bureau. While we can’t avoid all of the emergencies, the more we eliminate, the better off our clients (you), are.

911Light®: A patented, high-intensity Xenon beacon reduces the time it takes rescuers to find you in an emergency. Now your house can help rescuers find you instantly in a 9-1-1 emergency.

Defensible Space: MBFPD, inspects properties for compliance with California State Law (PFC 4291) requiring defensible space. Property owners should remove any dead and dying trees and vegetation from their property.

Smoke Detectors: current code requires one in each bedroom and one in each hallway. Remember to change batteries when you change your clocks each fall and spring. SMOKE DETECTORS DO SAVE LIVES!

Portable Fire Extinguishers: We recommend that each household have at least one portable fire extinguisher. Commercial properties are required to have extinguishers.

Fire Hydrants: PLEASE, "Adopt-A-Hydrant" and keep it shoveled out. The time you save us may be for your home! We’ll even give you (or your children) "Adoption Certificates."

LPG/Natural Gas Ordinance: Be sure your gas installation meets the current District Ordinance.

House Numbers: Your house numbers should be 6" in height and posted within 20' of the roadway. Numbers must be a contrasting color from the background. Illuminated numbers are best. Lit numbers that contrast with the background are preferred. And, after you have called 9-1-1, have someone meet us out on the road if possible.

Beware of Carbon Monoxide: The Invisible Killer - have your gas appliances checked; do not use portable kerosene or oil heaters in an unventilated room; invest in a carbon-monoxide detector.

Commercial Properties: we have started our commercial property program and will be inspecting each business. Our goal is to help you to create a safe business. We can consult with you on preplans and will help to bring your business into compliance with fire codes.

Flammable Liquids: Do not store substances such as gasoline indoors. Keep all flammable substances in approved containers, in well ventilated, outdoor places.

SafeKids Program: The District is a founding member of the Sierra Division of the Placer County SafeKids Coalition.

Pre-Planning for Medical Emergencies: Hmmm.... an emergency that is planned? Follow these steps to make it less stressful when it happens.

Safety Products: The Meeks Bay Fire Protection District has a few products available to help encourage community safety. We are asking for a small donation to cover the cost of these items. However, if you are in dire need, please contact the Chief for financial assistance.
